Tombstone Diesel was founded by Travis Kurz, a nationally respected diesel technician with roots that trace back to Detroit’s automotive golden age. His great-grandfather, Arthur Kurz, was a close friend and trusted inventor for Henry Ford Jr., contributing designs still in use today by leading automakers.

From a young age, Travis immersed himself in the world of cars and machinery. By 14, he was working as an apprentice mechanic. By 18, he was hand-selected to run a prestigious shop in Scottsdale, Arizona. At just 19, he was designing concept cars that sold for over $1 million at Barrett-Jackson auctions.

Before turning wrenches full-time, Travis Kurz spent years as a working cowboy on a sprawling 10,000-acre cattle ranch in Tombstone, Arizona. Life on the ranch taught him more than just horsemanship—it instilled the grit, perseverance, and work ethic that now drive everything we do at Tombstone Diesel.

Around here, we have a saying: “It’s going cowboy.” It’s our way of reminding ourselves—and our customers—that no matter the challenge, we tackle it head-on with determination, skill, and a relentless commitment to getting the job done right.

From the open range to the diesel performance shop, that cowboy mindset fuels our passion for building, repairing, and pushing diesel trucks beyond expectations. Travis has also placed top in national technician competitions and worked with high-profile clients like Alice Cooper and Nicolas Cage. In 2017, he took his skills to the track, racing alongside ATS Diesel on the TV show Grudge Race.
